Jamilah is a 40 years old disabled woman from Pasir Gudang, Johor. She suffered partial paralysis after an accident at her workplace. Her husband works as a factory operator in Masai, Johor with a monthly income of RM1500. She has 4 children to take care of, all of whom are still in school.

Today, Jamilah runs a small-scale food business. She is a very hardworking woman who tries her best to help her family despite her disability. On an average, she is able to earn around RM 1000 to RM 1400 per month depending on the number of customer’s she gets. According to her, the income earned every month (including husband’s income) is not enough for their family’s expenses when coupled with the medical expenses to treat her disability.

To date, Jamilah has undergone 3 operations. She is supposed to go through the fourth operation but she does not have sufficient funds to cover even a quarter of the expenses. On top of that, the hospital charges extra for the cost of treatment and the devices that are required to be inserted into her hips and legs. Due to the many financial constraints and her disability, Jamilah is determined to become independent and wishes to empower herself by expanding her own small food  stall (gerai makan) in front of her house.
