Through your donations, we were able to furnish Rohashinah with a sewing machine, a cabinet, and other required sewing tools.

Her monthly income has now increased to RM1000. She is hoping to be able to increase her income even more in the coming days thanks to the ease of the sewing machine.

Rohashinah binti Mohd Taib is a 35 year old single mother who lives in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. Coming from a poverty stricken family, they were further tested when her father passed away in 2018. This brought all the responsibilities on her head and forced her to become the sole bread winner for her family. In the struggle to make ends meet, she is now also tasked to take care of her sick mother with no one else to lend her a helping hand.

Financial problems are one of the biggest threats to marital and family life. This case is no exception. Even though she has no biological children of her own, she faces the struggles and challenges of a single mother. Rohashinah now has to bring under her roof and take care of 2 of her young nieces aged 9 and 12 years old respectively who were left behind as their parents got divorced, adding to the turbulence in the family.

Rohashinah holds a diploma but despite trying a lot, she couldn’t secure a decent job. This is when she tried her hand in the tailoring business and started learning how to sew.

Rohashinah managed to get a loan from Yayasan Pembangunan Keluarga Terengganu (YPKT) to buy a small sewing machine and kick start a small business to take care of her family’s needs. Rohashinah sews clothes from 8am to 2am on a daily basis so that she can make 2 pairs of clothes in a week. With this she manages to earn about RM700.00 per month only.  Despite working so hard, most of her income goes to cover her rent which amounts to RM400.

This income is not enough to cater to her family’s basic expenses like groceries, utilities etc. As a single mother she has to worry about childcare and schooling expenses as well.

Rohashinah intends to expand her business to meet the growing needs of a frail family completely dependent on her.

To do so, the donations from this campaign will be geared towards equipping her with a new sewing machine that would enable her to sew faster and also extend the current sewing area to accommodate more stock and other required materials.

In order to ensure a long term progress, using these donations, Rohashinah will embark on learning new sewing methods, techniques and styles so that she can cater to a wider array of clients and varying demands from the market.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: It is better for one among you to bring a load of firewood on his back and give charity out of it (and satisfy his own need) and be independent of people, than that he should beg from people, whether they give him anything or refuse him. Verily the upper hand is better than the lower hand, and begin (charity) with your dependants. [Muslim]

Rohashinah is a living example of the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ regarding those who try to work to earn a Halal and respectable income instead of begging others. At GlobalSadaqah our mission is to empower such people so that they go from becoming beneficiaries to benefactors themselves. This is the core of our mission to Circulate Good.

Even the smallest of donations count. The donations from this campaign not only help Rohashinah set up a decent business but will also help stabilize a family going through a very tough time  Don’t let the numbers stop you for Allah loves all those who give and help remove a difficulty of a fellow Muslim.
