Established in 1984 and officially launched in 1992, Al-Khaadem is a Malaysian humanitarian charitable body committed to helping those in need through effective charity and as guided by the Noble Qurāan and the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.
āAl-Khaademā means āThe One Who Servesā. This philosophy of selfless service underpins the purpose behind the establishment of Pertubuhan Al-Khaadem, which is to help all mankind, spiritually and physically.

A lot of the times, we just donate a bit of money and move on. Do we pause and think if we can do something to make sure that our charity can have a long-lasting impact that can potentially change someones life?

To ensure that each Ringgit donated for charity makes a maximum impact, Al-Khaadem (AK) and SuperThinkers (ST) have joined forces since October 2019 under the banner of Skuad Prihatin Kemiskinan (SPK).Ā Combining the strengths and experiences of ST and AK, SPKās mission is to move families away from poverty to economic self-sufficiency.Ā SPK also aims to empower the vulnerable and needy with the necessary skills to re-enter society and benefit their own families and community as a whole. By empowering these individuals within their respective communities, this will result in a positive impact on the overall well being of neighbourhoods and at the same time offer opportunities to further contribute in uplifting the prosperity of the entire nation.

So how can this vision be fulfilled?
Instead of giving one off donations, SPK tackles the root cause of problems affecting poor households and neighbourhoods. They visit the poor and interact with them to understand their challenges and concerns. Backed by data, SPK then mobilise targeted and sustainable solutions for assistance to empower the disadvantaged families to stand on their own feet.

To expand the opportunities available to the poor, SPKās solutions include:
ā¢ helping the disadvantaged access upskilling and training programmes
ā¢ provide support for sustainable income generation, by helping the poor to access jobs and start up micro-enterprise opportunities
ā¢ ensuring that children go to school and have access to tutoring, as educational mobility is key to a better future
ā¢ building up the informal neighbourhood and community networks that surround and support low-income people
ā¢ articulating and advocating issues faced to the Government and local authorities to strengthen institutional and systemic support

Skuad Prihatin Kemiskinan (SPK) under its monthly provision programs needs a Van! SPK aims to purchase one Daihatsu Gran Max van to deliver monthly groceries to more than 100 families. As of now, the cars of participating volunteers are used which causes logistical difficulties. This will help in reaching out to the existing families efficiently and increase SPK’s capacity to assist more deserving families inshaAllah.
While SPK is still in its stage of infancy, the positive growth shown within the last 4 years is a testament to the impact from the present initiatives carried out.
SPK’s immediate target is to engage 200 vulnerable families and address their specific challenges. The focus will be to encourage these selected 200 individuals/families by empowering them with the correct tools and helping them become capable members of society by getting them back on their own feet within three years, i.e. by end-2023.
Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever relieves a Muslim of a burden from the burdens of the world, Allah will relieve him of a burden from the burdens on the Day of Judgement. And whoever helps ease a difficulty in the world, Allah will grant him ease from a difficulty in the world and in the Hereafter. And whoever covers (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will cover (his faults) for him in the world and the Hereafter. And Allah is engaged in helping the worshipper as long as the worshipper is engaged in helping his brother.” [Tirmidhi]
